My Approach in session is not a "one size fits all". I utilize multiple therapeutic modalities, as well as my own personal experiences. I genuinely enjoy the work that I do and see this opportunity as a privilege. To be able to meet somebody who has the courage to be vulnerable, is one of the most beautiful experiences I get to witness almost daily. For this reason, I find that I have one of the best jobs in the world!
One approach that I utilize includes psychodynamic therapy: I help people review emotions, thoughts, early-life experiences, and beliefs to gain insight into their lives and their present-day problems. It is my belief that it is important to evaluate the patterns that have developed over time and recognize recurring patterns. This process can help people see the ways in which they avoid distress or develop defense mechanisms as a method of coping. My goal is to help you to challenge and recognize these patterns so that you can begin to use healthy coping skills and start living a life that is worth living.
In session, I also incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy which focuses on exploring relationships among a person's thoughts, feelings and behaviors. I help clients to identify negative or false beliefs and help to reconstruct them.
I always begin exactly where you are, and strongly believe that you are the expert of your own life. The decision to seek therapy is often difficult, and starting therapy can be frightening (especially the first appointment). Because of this, I do everything I can to help people feel at ease, safe, and comfortable when they come to see me.
